Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Profound’s intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) has a less rigorous schedule than our residential treatment or partial hospitalization program (PHP). Typically, clients are required to attend sessions lasting between 3-4 hours per day at least 3 days per week.

The benefit to an intensive outpatient treatment program is that it allows for significant flexibility in scheduling for those who have professional or educational obligations or who may have to care for a family member. IOP clients are able to attend evening and weekend sessions that best accommodate their schedule.

Who is the Ideal Client for Outpatient Treatment in Los Angeles?

Someone who:

is ready to commit to recovery
has completed residential treatment or day treatment
does not require more intensive treatment
has a safe home environment
has a family, work or school commitment
does not have a co-occurring disorder

Group therapy is at the core of IOP as studies have shown group participation is as effective as individual therapy in treating addiction. Some areas of focus include:

Psychoeducational groups
Process groups
Relapse prevention groups
12-step focused groups
Family groups
Skills development groups
Gender specific groups

In individual therapy sessions, clients often dig deeper into the work done in group therapy, allowing them to spend more time on individual issues. Some individuals don’t feel comfortable talking in a group setting so individual therapy gives them the space to talk about more personal matters.

Alternative Therapies allow clients to tap into nonverbal ways of healing. Therapists that are trained in the particular treatment lead these sessions, and they often take place in a group setting.
