Many people who struggle with addiction also suffer from co-occurring mental health or behavioral disorders. Also known as Dual Diagnosis and comorbid disorders, co-occurring disorders are two or more disorders that exist concurrently. Often, interactions between the illnesses can worsen the course of both. Examples of co-occurring disorders include addiction paired with depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder. At Profound LA, we offer addiction treatment and mental health programs to address co-occurring disorders and mental health needs. Whether a patient is facing substance abuse, mental illness, or both, we are here to help make healing a possibility. Our effective treatment is tailored specifically to the individual.

FAQs: MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT SANTA MONICA

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), mental health includes your emotional, psychological, and social well-being and is important at every stage of life. It affects how we think, feel, and act. Oftentimes, our mental health determines how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.

Mental health is important because it plays a vital role in our overall health. Poor mental health can increase the risk of many types of physical health problems and mental illness.

According to the CDC, common factors that negatively impact mental health can include early adverse life experiences (such as trauma or abuse), experiences related to other ongoing (chronic) medical conditions, biological factors (such as genes or chemical imbalances in the brain), use of alcohol or recreational drugs, having few friends, and feelings of loneliness or isolation.

The CDC defines mental illness as conditions that affect a person’s thinking, feeling, mood, or behaviors, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. Some mental illnesses can be chronic (long-lasting). The treatment plan and management plan depend on the specific mental illness of the individual.

Mental health can often be improved by making lifestyle changes, building coping strategies, and working with a licensed professional.

Additional Treatment options

Partial Hospitalization

After the completion of detox, we offer a safe and structured treatment program that gives some flexibility within day-to-day life while undergoing full-time recovery and treatment. Our Partial Hospitalization program also provides an affordable and relatively quick method to long-term hospitalization, since the person lives at home while receiving treatment at a nearby hospital or medical center.

INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT

Also known as our In Action treatment program, this program has the ability to help keep structure and accountability in place during less formally structured phases of the recovery and rehab process. As the next step down from Partial Hospitalization, this program is designed to aid in reintegration into everyday life for each and every client in Santa Monica, California.
